While John is preaching, Jesus comes to him to be baptized. In Jerusalem, John is drawing so much attention that the Pharisees send a priestly delegation to question him, and he claims to be only the forerunner of the One who is greater. When John sees Jesus again, he calls him "the Lamb of God." John continues to preach a message of repentance and to baptize until he is imprisoned by Herod. While in prison John sends two disciples to ask Jesus if the Christ has really come. Herod grants Salome's wish and has John beheaded.
